Rivera works for WLS as a weekend morning news anchor and reporter. He joined the ABC 7 Eyewitness News team in December 2017. Upon his arrival at the station, News Vice President Jennifer Graves painted him as a “skilled anchor and a versatile reporter adept at covering everything from big breaking news stories, to politics and feature stories.”
Even so, his initial vital story for the station is when he broadcasted the burial and march of the murdered police commander, Paul Bauer in 2018. Also, he served as an anchor on ABC 7’s on-screen broadcast for over 180 minutes as Commander Bauer was honored by the city and its residents.
Prior to WLS, he served WTSP-TV in Tampa, Florida as a weekend morning news anchor and political reporter. While serving as an anchor there, he supplied 6 hours of the compelling continuous broadcast of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in nearby Orlando.
On the other hand, while serving as the political reporter he provided coverage for quizzed Vice President Mike Pence about Russian influence, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton campaign rallies, and co-moderated a heated congressional debate. Additionally, he covered a broad range of stories such as the hurricanes that destroyed Florida and a family whose son is a 5-organ transplant survivor.
Before WTSP, he served at WAND-TV in Decatur, Illinois as an anchor and a reporter. While there, he anchored a two-hour day-to-day newscast and reported breaking news. Further, he wrote, edited, and reported a weekly feature segment aimed at the local community. To boot, he secured a regional Associated Press Award in his quarter-century there. In his free time, he loves running and exploring all of the taco spots, coffee shops, and diners in Chicago.
