Lori Prichard Spouse/Husband
Prichard exchanged vows with her husband, Travis on October 2004 in Webb City, Missouri. Travis served as a physical therapist and was working toward a doctorate degree. 2019 on the morning of August 16, her husband committed suicide as a result of depression at 44. A week later, she went through his phone and discovered that he had made a call to a toll-free number for a duration of 14 minutes. Additionally, it was a national suicide hotline that he made prior to his suicide.
“The day before he died, he called the national suicide hotline. But when he came home that night, he didn’t say a word to me. He didn’t say, ‘I’m struggling, I need your help. I’m having a really hard time.”
“I always thought Travis and I would be married until we were old and our kids were older, and had their own families and we’d have grandchildren. Now I look at myself, and I am a single parent. I’m raising two children on my own, and it is hard. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and think that if I can just get through today, I’ll be ok. We’ll be ok. She voiced.
In the wake of this, she took just about a 5-month leave of absence. Occasionally, during her leave, she posted her journey on her Social Media. Upon her return, she sat at the anchor desk early Monday and coherently reported the day’s headlines: a protest over homeless shelter beds, hostilities with Iran, the Golden Globes, and a lethal residential fire in Ogden.
Moreover, she said that she shared her story, not for public sympathy but to bring attention to depression.
“I feel like I owe it to Travis, because if there’s just one person out there who is struggling and can see something in my story, and identify with that, and think, ‘I need to get help,’ or ‘give it one more day,’ then this is what it’s about.”
“People need to understand that this isn’t something to be ashamed of. If you have depression, you have to talk about it and then you particularly need to talk about it with people that you love because they love you, too. The response and the messages and the texts and just it’s like so much that I have to just go back in my hole and hide for a little while. Then everything comes down, calms down, and then a few days later I’ll come out, and so that’s the best way to explain it,”
“I’m in no way certified or licensed to give anyone any sort of advice whatsoever other than you’ve got to live. Do whatever you can for the people that you love.”
“I thought how disingenuous of me if I did not do the same thing, particularly when it comes to suicide and depression because it has to be talked about because my husband never talked about it. He thought it was just a sign of weakness, and he did not want to feel weak,”
