Melanie Lawson Illness

Melanie told the viewers a news story about herself. Lawson claimed, “I remember waking up one morning and stumbling down the hallway, unable to find my balance.” Before she was given a diagnosis with multiple sclerosis, she had to go through months of testing. I was absolutely terrified. Lawson stated, “When I heard MS, I automatically assumed I would be in a wheelchair.”

However, she continued her adored job with grace and determination. She says she has been fortunate not to have many episodes since her diagnosis. Her greatest obstacle is a symptom called foot drop, which makes it hard to lift her front foot. She stated, “Possibly the thing I miss most is being able to walk long distances.” I always tell people with a chuckle that I can’t run a marathon or dance the nutcracker, but I used to be able to do both.

I certainly did not.” Lawson now moves around with a cane. I used the cane to prevent me from falling down at times more than anything else. She stated, “It’s a good stabilizer.” When she talks about the first cane she ever bought, she even smiles. All of my canes feature flowers and other decorative elements because I wanted the one I got to be appealing.

Lawson stated, “A girl ought to at least look good with a cane if you have to carry it.” “You go through a terrible depression, you feel as though sometimes why me?” Lawson, a woman of faith, asserts, “You go through a terrible depression, you feel as though why me?” She stated, I just discovered that being able to pray for guidance, pray for direction, and realize that I was still extremely blessed was extremely helpful for me.

She has witnessed firsthand the M.S. Society’s work and advancements in treatment over the past two decades. The outlook for those living with MS has improved steadily since her diagnosis. The BPMS150 has played a significant role in that. “Seeing the riders and fundraisers participating in the annual event never fails to bring me to tears,” she stated.

She promises to support numerous riders instead, despite her desire to participate in the ride. Lawson is hopeful that with each mile traveled and dollar raised for a cure, people with MS will be able to regain lost functions. She hopes it will reopen the door to some of life’s more straightforward pleasures.

She stated, “Maybe a long walk on the beach is right up there on the top of the list of things I’d like to be able to do.” Melanie serves on the MS Society’s board and has participated in numerous MS-related events.
