Alan May is an analyst for the Washington Capitals’ pregame and postgame shows, Capitals Central and Capitals Postgame Live, on NBC Sports. He also adds to coverage as an ice-level analyst on a regular basis. May, a 15-year NHL veteran, and coach, joined NBC Sports in 2009 to cover his old team. Other broadcasting credits include work as an analyst for the NHL Network, game-day coverage for the Dallas Stars’ radio flagship, and several national and local radio shows.
Alan also participated in the NHL for 12 seasons, with five with the Capitals from 1989-90 to 1993-94 inclusive. May has also appeared in 39 playoff games for the Capitals, one of these being the team’s trip to the Wales Conference Finals. This was in 1990. Alan also spent eight seasons in the NHL with Washington, Boston, Edmonton, Dallas, and Calgary, and scored 31 goals in 393 games.
Additionally, May has three years of coaching experience. He was a loved assistant coach with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s top minor-league club. This was for the 2008-09 season. During the 1997-98 season, he was the head coach of the Central Hockey League’s Fayetteville Force, and in 1999-00, he was the head coach of the Western Professional Hockey League’s Lubbock Cotton Kings.
