Rivas works for NBC 7, San Diego as an investigative reporter. She joined the NBC News team in September 2019. Upon joining the station, she initially served as a news reporter. Prior to San Diego, she served in Fort Wayne, Indiana at ABC21, WPTA-TV as an anchor of the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts. Also, she debuted WPTA’s investigative unit, Digging Deeper.
During her quarter-century in Fort Wayne, she secured a National Murrow Award. To boot, she gained an Emmy for an investigation into a factory worker’s demise that triggered an overhaul to Indiana’s workers’ reparations laws. This marked the initial changes to the statute in over 3 decades. Nonetheless, she debuted her career when she served at FOX28 in South Bend, Indiana.
While in South Bend, she served as a multimedia journalist and was later promoted to serve as a weekend anchor. However, she began her professional career when she served as an account executive at a public relations agency in Miami. During her tenure at the agency, she booked client appearances on local, national, and cable news networks, and interviews in local and national newspapers.
Further, she made a career switch at age 25 and returned to school, and embarked on a career in journalism. Moreover, she is a proud Miami Hurricane and an audacious Miami Dolphins fan.
