At the age of eight, Elyse knew that anchoring news was her dream job while growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. One story at a time, she aspires to change the world and enjoys interacting with people while out in the neighborhood.

Since Elyse joined NBC2, she has covered storms extensively, even during the height of it all, keeping millions of people informed about the challenges encountered by the community. She received an Edward R. Murrow Award for her hurricane coverage. After earning her degree from the University of Toledo, Elyse had a goal of becoming a commencement speaker in the future. She is thrilled to say that she was invited to speak at the May 2023 commencement. In 2023, Elyse received a request to join a board that assisted in selecting the College of Arts and Letters’ new dean.

Elyse began her broadcasting career in her hometown in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was hired as an assignment editor, production assistant, and coordinator for the missing person segment. She worked every day to launch a program, and she was able to locate over 350 missing persons in Ohio with the assistance of local police agencies, broadcasters, and families of loved ones who had gone missing. The show continues to air today. She was involved in many major breaking news stories, including finding the three women in Cleveland. She was also the first person to find a photo of Michelle Knight for a local and national broadcast.

Elyse also worked as the lead evening anchor for a FOX and NBC affiliate in Michigan before relocating to SWFL. Over the course of her career, Elyse has conducted a thorough investigation into a community organization that came together to aid a stroke victim who was a military veteran in acquiring a shower and a home renovation to help make his house more accessible. While traveling from Columbus to Cleveland for Thanksgiving, Elyse noticed a woman driving with a sign that read, “I need a kidney,” on the back of her vehicle.

She made a lot of effort to cover the story about the local woman so that she could receive a kidney. She’s delighted to report that the woman was able to receive a successful kidney transplant as a result of her sharing the story on the air, and each time she expresses her gratitude to Elyse, she can’t help but cry because she knows that the proper stories on the air have the power to positively impact someone’s life. And that is the significance of Elyse getting involved in the news. When not covering news, Elyse enjoys painting, sewing, and creating clothing designs. She enjoys cooking; pierogis are her specialty. When she’s not in the kitchen, you can bet she’s out exploring the best local cuisine has to offer! Additionally, Elyse loves boating, concerts, snowboarding, skiing, music, and fashion.

Elyse has always been an avid sports enthusiast having played a variety of sports since she was young, including softball, volleyball, basketball, and track, to mention a few. She danced ballet as well.  Elyse loves the news. Because of her love of news, her brother gave her the nickname Rhonda Burgundy after she graduated from college, and it has stuck with her ever since. Her favorite sports teams are her alma mater, the Toledo Rockets, the Cleveland Browns, and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
