Hilary established a name for herself in television before she even finished college, working as a reporter for High School Hammertime on Fox Sports Net Detroit. She also served as an anchor and reporter for over 24,000 viewers, and as a member of the student-produced magazine news show “The Source.”, Golston’s report on the inter-county connector was broadcast on the former WB Interloop program in Washington, DC, the ninth-largest market at the time.

Medicaid gave WFRV credit for revealing information that prompted the agency to examine the case.

In October 2010, Hilary was employed as a Weekend anchor at WVTM the NBC station in Birmingham, Alabama. While there, she won an Emmy for her reporting during a show commemorating the one-year anniversary of Alabama’s deadliest tornado outbreak. She was sent by WKYC to South Carolina to cover the historic 1,000-year flooding. While there, she had a live interview with U.S. Senator Tim Scott and covered the damage he was assessing across a section of the state.

Additionally, she provided live coverage from the command center where Governor Nikki Haley delivered press briefings. Golston was also selected to cover the Michael Brown case in Ferguson, Missouri. There, she interviewed a finance official in St. Louis County for the first time about the funding issue and learned about a $3.4 million emergency fund request for police salaries. Golston has covered some of the most significant regional and national news stories of the day. These stories include the Brelo decision and the Republican National Convention. She has obtained exclusives and made public authorities answerable.

During her tenure at FOX 2, Golston has won multiple honors from the Detroit Society of Professional Journalists. Among these were recognitions for her live on-set coverage of Detroit firefighters trapped in a collapsing home, which won her a breaking spot news category award. In addition, she received SPJ honors for her work creating and hosting the web series “HD Show,” which she produced with her co-anchor, as well as for moderating a Detroit Voice 2 Voice debate on weapons. Her in-depth interview with Detroit Police Chief James White earned her a Michigan Association of Broadcasting merit award.

Hilary also received two Emmy nominations in Michigan within months of joining Fox 2. She was privileged to win the Lower Great Lakes Regional Emmy for “General Assignment Reporting,” which included coverage of stories she wrote about human trafficking in northeast Ohio, protests against President Donald Trump’s election, an activist’s valiant response to violence in Cleveland’s streets, and a one-on-one, in-depth interview with a Black pastor who was making national news for his support of Trump.

In her tenure at Cleveland’s WKYC, she won three Cleveland Press Club awards and was featured on MSNBC for her knowledge of the Tamir Rice case. Hilary was a board member of the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences before serving as vice president of the chapter’s board of governors for two years.
