Moore has always had an interest in current events and history. He also had a gift for public speaking and being in front of the camera. With this, he was able to choose a career which was broadcast journalism. This is what he says “It seemed a more dependable way to make a living and provide for a family than either acting or writing.”
Joe spent two years as an Army broadcast journalist in Vietnam and later started his career in Hawaii in 1969 as a sportscaster. He later moved to the news anchor desk in 1980, where he dealt with historic events. Examples are Hurricanes Iwa and Iniki, the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger and the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan among others.
While away from work, Joe can be found acting on stage, writing for the theatre, watching plays and movies, or listening to music. In fact, he previously hosted a weekly Mozart program on Hawaii Public Radio.
