John Hollenhorst Career

Hollenhorst works for KSL as a Senior Correspondent and a nature specialist. He joined the KSL team in January 1986. Further, he served the station for more than 3 and a half decades. Moreover, he served in the Intermountain West in1969, when he followed a tour of duty in Vietnam. Additionally, the U.S. Army sent him to Dugway Proving Ground. After his time at the time, he rejoined the state of Minnesota and completed his undergraduate studies.

Afterward, he went on to serve as a print journalist in Minneapolis. This is where he debuted his reporting journalist.  In 1975, he migrated back to Salt Lake City. Within a  few months, he became a television reporter and was given the assignment of Courts Specialist for KSL. Upon joining the station in 1976, he initially served as n assignment desk assistant.

In July 1976, he went on-air and reported from the Utah Republican Convention. A few weeks later, he did his first interview on camera with the movie star, John Wayne. Eventually, he was raised to serve as a full-time reporter. In 1960, he left Salt Lake City and went to serve in Dallas at WFAA-TV as an assignment reporter.

Between late 1981 and 1986, he broadcasted the state’s capitol when he served Bonneville International Corporation as an assistant bureau. In 1986, he rejoined KSL in Salt Lake City. Moreover, he was nominated to be a William Benton Fellow in Broadcast Journalism for the school year 1990 to 1991. When he rejoined Salt Lake City in 1986, he broadcasted several stories such as the execution of murderer Gary Gilmore, and Ted Bundy.

And, the first senator in space, the 50th anniversary of D-Day in France, Utah’s Jake Garn. Frequently, he broadcasts environmental issues and science. During his quarter-century at the university, his studies spotlighted science and history. Throughout his career, he has secured many awards. For example, The National Headliners Award for the broadcast of breaking news.

In 2012, he was inducted into the Emmy Silver Circle. Also, The Society of Professional Journalists dubbed him “Best TV Reporter” for three solid years. Hollenhorst has a passion for history, science, Southeastern Utah scenery, and jazz music. Additionally, he loves passing time by hiking, reading, and spending time with his family.
