Mitchell works for FOX 5 DC as a morning news anchor and host. She joined the FOX 5 DC News team in September 2020. Prior to this, she served the station’s sister station, FOX 5 Atlanta as an anchor and a reporter. While there, she served as a reporter during the day and a co-anchor of the station’s “News Edge at 11” on weeknights.

Before that, served as a solo anchor of “Good Day Atlanta” on weekends. Additionally, in her first year of serving as an anchor in Atlanta, she secured a nomination for “Best Anchor” by the Regional Southeast EMMY Chapter. Aside from anchoring, she has provided coverage for multiple big stories. For instance, the Super Bowl LIII week, Hurricane Irma.

In addition, she covered various days of protests in Atlanta and Charlotte, and North Carolina succeeding eminent officer-involved shootings in 2016. Moreover, she served as a field anchor during the inauguration of Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp. Kemp faced a controversial race against Democrat Stacey Abrams that earned national attention.

Notably, she has chatted with some of Hollywood’s A-lister stars at the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios. Further, she interviewed multiple newsmakers during her career such as media mogul, Oprah Winfrey and screen legend Clint Eastwood, actress Halle Berry and acclaimed wellness guru, Deepak Chopra. Also, she did a story on celebrity salutes to the late “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin.

The National Association of Black Journalists awarded her a “Salute to Excellence Award.” Prior to Atlanta, she served in Birmingham, Alabama at WBMA-TV as a reporter and an anchor. In her quarter-century in Birmingham, she partook in the station’s launch team for its “Focus @ 4” program. To boot, she served as an anchor for the station’s “Midday News.”

Additionally, she provided coverage for city hall and regularly broke exclusive reports on government funding. Mitchell assisted pilot the station’s broadcast of the 50th Anniversary of the “Selma to Montgomery March.” The march was frequented by Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush and the late U.S. congressman and civil rights icon, John Lewis.

Nonetheless, her career debuted when she served in Chattanooga, Tennessee as a multimedia journalist for WTVC-TV. While there, she reported breaking stories. For instance, the lethal April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak across the Southeast. Also, she served as a writer for Rolling Out and Crossroads News.

Further, she is a member of e National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Moreover, she serves as a mentor for numerous budding journalists and speaks at multiple schools, churches, and conferences. For her community involvement with youth and women, she has gained many honors.  Else, she is a coveted motivational speaker.

However, Mitchell’s love for journalism began when she was 9 as she wanted to be a journalist.
