He began his journalism career at the age of 14 when he created and hosted his own television show in Troy, Michigan. During his first two years of college at Michigan State, he worked on-air for the CBS and ABC stations in Lansing, Michigan. Following his graduation, he was hired as a news and weather anchor at NBC25 FOX66 CW46 in Flint, Michigan. After that, Roop joined WDUS-TV, the NBC affiliate in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he served as a Weekday Morning Anchor for seven years. Following 24 hurricanes, including Katrina, he relocated to Detroit in 2009 amid a brewing economic storm. He is a strong believer in the city’s future.

FOX 2 set the standard for election coverage in 2020, with more exclusive content than any other local station. Roop took great pride in having secured three private one-on-one interviews with Joe Biden, who was then a candidate. In addition, he was able to get three personal one-on-one meetings with former President Trump. For his final interview, he met with Trump one-on-one for fifteen minutes in the Rose Garden at the White House. The day of the election was exciting. Following his success in reaching candidate Kamala Harris in Detroit, he made the decision to give the White House a call to inquire if former Vice President Pence would be amenable to a phone interview. Moments later, he made a call to his cell phone, capping an incredible political season.
