He began his career at Eastern Kentucky Broadcasting, now Mountain Top. Whitley worked as a weekend meteorologist and helped produce and shoot sports. Moreover, became up with an hour-long football show each week. Ross came to Panama City from Little Rock where he was a forecaster for 9 different TV stations across the US. He was doing 6 to 10 newscasts daily.
