Prior to serving WTVJ, he served as the ABC affiliate for Naples/Ft. Myers, WZVN-TV as a forecaster on the weekend morning and evening broadcasts for two years. Further, in 2004 he was a member of the forecast team that watched the unforgettable Category 4 Hurricane Charley make mainland in Southwest Florida.

In the wake of his arrival in South Florida, he utilized that valuable encounter as hurricanes Katrina and Wilma devastated the community. Since then, he has aided the people of South Florida via close calls with 2016’s Matthew and 2017’s Irma.

Before Florida, he served in Central Nebraska at KHGI-TV for over three years and his weathercasts were acknowledged by the Associated Press of Nebraska. Additionally, he has the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association.

Via the National Weather Association, Phillips and his family fund a national scholarship for undergraduate college students majoring in meteorology. In addition, he has the specification as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society.

Furthermore, he serves as a volunteer and an advocate for the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Also, he is a supporter of South Florida-based “FLIPANY” and Miami Rescue Mission. Else, he loves serving as a speaker in schools and local organizations on weather awareness and hurricane preparation.
