D’Agata began his career in London in 1992 as an editor at ABC News. He was APTN’s London correspondent until 2002 when he joined CBS News, first as senior foreign correspondent for CBS Radio and then as London correspondent for CBS Newspath. Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, he has reported from the front lines of every major conflict around the world, in addition to covering the world’s most important international stories. D’Agata and his team oversaw coverage of the migrant crisis, which helped CBS News win both the prestigious Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Award and the Sigma Delta Chi Award in 2017.
In 2013, he received the Overseas Press Club Award for his dramatic account of the crackdown in Cairo following the Egyptian revolution. His work helped CBS News win a number of Edward R. Murrow awards, primarily for his coverage in Iraq and Syria. D’Agata and his team were among the first Western journalists to reach eastern Mosul to report on the fight against ISIS. He previously covered the offensive to liberate Fallujah and was embedded with Kurdish Peshmerga in the battle for Sinjar. D’Agata was also the first American journalist to arrive in Baghdad ten months before the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Charlie and his colleagues were among the first to report from Benghazi, Libya, after Islamic militants launched a coordinated attack on the US Consulate, killing Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
