Quijano began her career in 1994 as an intern at WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois, where she later became a reporter, producer, and host. In 1998, Quijano left WCIA to become reporter general for WFTS-TV in Tampa, Florida. Quijano has been a correspondent for CNN Newsource, a CNN affiliate, since December 2000. She covered the September 11, 2001 attacks and visited Kuwait shortly before the US attack. The invasion of Iraq in 2003. She was in Kuwait for about a month. Quijano also covered the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and sniper attacks on the Beltway.

In 2016, Quijano was appointed by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) to moderate the vice presidential debate on Tuesday, October 4, at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia; In doing so, Quijano became the first Asian American to moderate a debate about a U.S. national electoral office during a general election and the youngest journalist to moderate a debate since 1988. It was also the first time a digital network moderator had been selected to moderate a national debate.
