Anderson Cooper Education
Cooper attended the Dalton School, a coeducational private day school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. At the age of 17, after graduating from Dalton a semester early, Cooper traveled across Africa for several months on a “rescue trip”. During the trip he contracted malaria and was hospitalized in Kenya. Describing the experience, Cooper wrote, “Africa was a place to forget and be forgotten.” Cooper attended Yale University where he lived at Trumbull College and served on the light rowing team. He was inducted into the Manuscript Society and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Anderson Cooper Career
During his undergraduate studies, Cooper spent two years as an intern at the Central Intelligence Agency and majored in political science. He worked in journalism without formal journalism training. He’s been a “self-proclaimed news junkie since [he] was in the womb”. After his first correspondence job in the early 1990s, he took a break from journalism and lived in Vietnam for a year, during which time he studied Vietnamese at the National Vietnamese University in Hanoi. In 1995, Cooper became a correspondent for ABC News before becoming a co-host of the late-night show World News Now on September 21, 1999. In 2000, he changed careers and became the host of the ABC reality show The Mole:
Cooper left The Mole after season two to return to newscasting. In 2001, he switched to CNN and commented, “It only lasted two seasons and it happened on 9/11 and I thought I needed to get back on the news. Cooper has been a correspondent for CBS News 60 Minutes since 2007 and a presenter and correspondent for CNN.
