Derek Kevra Career

Kevra is an American journalist working as a Morning and Evening  Meteorologist at WJBK/Fox 2 News in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, he is the producer and host of “Tech Talk” and “Drone Zone”. Kevra began his broadcasting career as an intern at Fox 2 News. After graduating from college, he landed a job as a Morning Meteorologist at KDRV in Medford, Oregon.

Derek moved to New Orleans two years later and started working at WWL-TV. He was more prepared for the widespread severe weather coverage they experienced during hurricane season because he had studied tropical meteorology in school. Derek received the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal in 2012. The AMS states that the seal indicates that, “the holder meets specific educational and experience criteria and has passed rigorous testing in their knowledge and communication of meteorology and related sciences needed to be an effective broadcast meteorologist.”

Derek is proud to have received numerous Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Best Weathercast in Michigan. He would much rather be at Fox 2 News in Metro Detroit, his hometown. Away from work, he and his spouse are occupied with their two children and their dog, and they enjoy taking trips up north.
