He is a former KGET-TV and Telemundo news anchor having joined the network in 2017. While there, he anchored the 6 pm newscasts alongside his wife Norma. He left the station in December 2023. Previously he was a reporter at KBAK-TV channel 29 in Bakersfield. Before that, he was a reporter at KUBO-FM, a multilingual radio station in Salinas. He has also worked at KPBS-FM in San Diego, and KECY-TV in El Centro.

Gaspar got his first on-air job in 1981 as a professional reporter at Salinas, California’s nonprofit multilingual radio station, KUBO-FM. From then on, it was hopscotch around the state, working at different places like KECY-TV in El Centro and KPBS-FM in San Diego. In 1988, he joined KBAK-TV channel 29, in Bakersfield working for almost 28 years before moving to KGET-TV 17 News in 2017. José has been awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Prize for his investigative journalism.
