As a part of a Cronkite professional program, Marroquin relocated to Los Angeles for her final semester at ASU.

Karen began her broadcasting career as an intern at The Santa Clarita Valley Signal in Santa Clarita, California. She won an Emmy for her coverage of beehive thefts in the Central Valley, among other things.
