Richert successfully joined the KDKA-TV team in November of 1988 and initially hosted “Wake Up with Larry Richert,”. This used to be a half-hour show aired in the morning on KDKA-TV from 6:30 to 7 a.m. However, the station went into reformatting its program from the morning program to more newscast-like. Therefore, Larry gave forecasts, read sports stories, and used to conduct interviews alongside his colleague John Shumway. John served at the anchor desk and Richert served on the morning show for four years. Thereafter, he went to the position of KDKA’s “Live at 5” program.
Larry took the position of weather forecasts for KDKA’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. news broadcasts in July 1995. This was due to Bob Kudzma needing to scale back his duties.
