Wolchek is an American journalist working as an Investigative Reporter for WJBK/ Fox 2 News in Detroit, MI. When Rob was younger, his dream was to work as a radio deejay. He began his career in broadcasting in 1978, when he was hired to play country music at Farmington, New Mexico’s KRAZ radio station. He was an awful country deejay and almost got fired in his first week of work. Fortunately, he held onto that position for a few months until landing a job at a Top 40 radio station. It was a welcome change from the twangy country tunes he had been playing when he opened with “Hot Blooded” song by Foreigner.

For many years, Rob enjoyed his career in radio. However, at the age of thirty, he felt it was time to find a “real” job. The problem was, he was not very interested in real jobs. He was working as a traffic reporter for KNX radio in Los Angeles, when a friend of Rob’s informed him he ran the intern program at a local television station . Despite signing up, he didn’t really get anywhere until another intern and traveled to San Francisco to cover the 1989 earthquake. He must have done a pretty good job given that he sold several stories to major networks.

Shortly after, Rob started working as a full-time reporter at Bakersfield’s KGET-TV. It required a lot of labor. He was responsible for producing, writing, editing, reporting, and reporting his own stories. And the pay was horrible. He had to put in three long years of grind time, though, because he had persuaded his wife to relocate from from the glitz of Los Angeles to the sticks of Bakersfield on the promise that one day he would be a great reporter.

Rob then proceeded to KJEO-TV in Fresno. He was dispatched on a story about a special park intended for disabled children that had been destroyed by arsonists during his first week there. The story touched him deeply, and he was furious with the thugs who set fire to a location that held great significance for children who had already been dealt a cruel hand. His stories sparked a campaign to reconstruct the park, and the city of Fresno granted him a special award. He became known as a people’s advocate all of a sudden. Rob quickly earned the nickname “Scambuster” for taking on the dishonest individuals who defrauded and took advantage of everyone. He won his first Emmy in Fresno for ‘Scambusting.’

Rob arrived at Fox 2 in 1997. He’s been tracking down con artists ever since, and he’s been fortunate enough to earn 25 additional Emmys. He takes great pride in his achievements in Detroit, which include exposing many scams, catching criminals and assisting send them go to prison. In order to ensure that justice is done, he has collaborated with legislators, the governor, and law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, he gets to broadcast all of his wild run-ins with the law on Fox 2 for public viewing!
