Brian Walder Career
Walder grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. This exposed him to various kinds of weather, ranging from wintertime Nor’easters and blizzards to summertime storms. While in high school, Walder decided to study meteorology in college after witnessing a thunderstorm off in the distance while at a friend’s house. Therefore, this sparked Brian’s path to becoming a professional meteorologist.
After graduation, Brian went to WVVA in Bluefield, WV for his first time as their new Weekend Meteorologist. After a few months, he was promoted to Morning Meteorologist and later moved a couple of hours south where he served as the Weekend Meteorologist at WJHL in Johnson City, TN. This was in 2014. Walder forecasted for northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia for three years on WJHL. Later, he came to ABC Tri-Cities and then came to Peoria in 2017. Brian has been in Central Illinois since then and has kept viewers safe from winter storms and other severe weather.
Walder was then delegated as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society in 2019. Certified Broadcast Meteorologist is the highest distinction given by the American Meteorological Society for broadcast meteorologists. It is given to those who meet the scientific and communication standards of the AMS. If not working, you can find Brian trying out a new recipe or watching his favorite sports teams. He is a die-hard fan of Philadelphia and Penn State but likes cheering on the Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State Football. He loves animals and has a dog named Radar.
