Schoenheider went to high school at Loyola Academy in Wilmette. He graduated in 2015 and then went to Hope College in Holland, Michigan. There he got his Bachelor’s in Communications degree with a broadcasting focus, as well as a minor in Business. While at Hope Academy, Jon worked as an intern at WGN tv in Chicago where he was a producer on a new show hosted by Larry Potash, the longest of any morning anchor in the country. The show was called “Backstory,’ with each of its episodes focusing on the history of Chicago and other American locales.

Schoenheider’s love for journalism was evident when he turned on the news after getting home from school. He knew that he wanted to become a storyteller and was fascinated with broadcasting, film, and television helped kickstart what became a lifelong passion.

At Loyola Academy, Jon was involved with the school paper where he was a media and entertainment writer. He was also involved with the school yearbook. At Hope Academy, Jon returned broadcasting to the forefront of the Communications department by creating the school’s first Broadcasting Club, which later spurred the return of full-credit classes on the same. The club helped students to interact in every aspect with the campus web show ‘The Dutch Angle of What Goes’. They made a show behind the scenes and in front of the camera as well.

After his graduation from Hope in 2019, Jon’s career in broadcasting started when he moved to his father’s hometown, Peoria. He first worked at WEEK and produced the 10:00 PM newscasts for Heart of Illinois ABC. Jon then went to full-time production on the station’s morning show, Good Morning Illinois.

Schoenheider later went dayside to begin reporting in January 2022. He had enough experience both behind the scenes and in the studio. He took over at the anchor desk for Heart of Illinois ABC News in the evening during weekends anchoring and producing the broadcasts. After the merger of 25News and Heart of Illinois ABC, Jon was the weekend anchor on the combined station. With his great experience, Jon moved back to the mornings full-time in March 2023 as an anchor on 25News Today and joined the morning team of Jessica Cook and Joe Strus.
