After receiving his degree from the University of Miami, he witnessed a few hurricanes that nearly made landfall in South Florida, including Hurricanes Dorian in 2019 and Irma in 2017. His meteorological breakthrough came in 2012 when a string of powerful thunderstorms passed through Columbus, Ohio, his hometown, leaving power out for more than a week. Up to 94 miles per hour wind gusts have been recorded!

He’s excited to be back to the beach and mountains after two years covering the unpredictable weather of the Midwest in Des Moines, Iowa. During his time in Des Moines, he was awarded an Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Award for “Iowa’s Forces of Nature,” a half-hour severe weather program, and a Regional Murrow Award for his five-part series “Madison County Strong,” which honored the one-year anniversary of the Winterset EF4 tornado.

When Dave isn’t watching the sky or his golf ball (hopefully) going into the hole, he’s either at the gym or the Triangle sampling all the delicious food, especially Carolina BBQ, or he’s firing up the grill at home.
