Grimes worked at KLST News as a news reporter from 1989 to 1990 in the San Angelo, Texas Area. However, he later joined WINK-TV as a full-time reporter for about three years in Fort Myers, Florida Area. He moved in 1993 to join WPTV Newschannel 5 and served there for two years. Thereafter, Jim reported for KPRC-TV in Houston, Texas before anchoring at WNCN in the North Carolina Area.

In addition, Grimes served at KDAF-TV (Tribune Broadcasting) as an anchor and reporter for eight years. Therefore, he wrote and did 5:30 & 9:00 o’clock weekend newscasts as well as creating hard-hitting local news stories for broadcast. Jim moved to join Clearwire Corp as a Corporate Communications where he managed external communications and media inquiries among other duties.

Further, Grimes did Television and Media Training whereby he managed seminars for corporations, non-profits, and Universities. Also, he assisted corporate executives, journalists, contributors, analysts, and athletes to perform excellently on air.

Additionally, he volunteers as a PR and produces videos in various organizations like Aproquen (Nicaragua) which provides free care to children suffering from burns and those with cleft lip and palate in Nicaragua. Besides, Jim also volunteered at Rocky Top Therapy Center for three years.
