Sierra works for KGO as an investigative reporter. She joined the ABC 7 News team in March 2020. Her passion for journalism began when she discovered a class dubbed”A Day in the Life of a TV News Reporter” during career day. Fascinated by the work of a journalist who spotlights what’s happening in the world and causing change, she decided to take up journalism as her career path.
Further, she has served at the local NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri as a reporter and an anchor. In her quarter century there, she gained a national Hearst award for a story. Additionally, the story triggered the Sheriff to fitly apply rules that ban sex offenders from living unduly close to schools and daycare facilities.
Later, she went on to serve at the ABC affiliate in Colorado Springs, KRDO-TV as an anchor and an investigative reporter for nearly 4 years. During her tenure there, she broadcasted torrential blizzards, and ghastly murder cases and uncovered scams that caused action from the Federal Trade Commission.
Moreover, she did a 12-month investigation where she exposed the illegal massage industry in southern Colorado which led to the rescue of 6 women from human trafficking. Furthermore, in 2019 she was awarded a regional Edward R. Murrow award after uncovering various contractor ploys. The news led to the retrieval of more than a hundred thousand dollars from consumers. The scams came from a harsh hail storm where the team earned a national Murrow award for a breaking news broadcast.
