Laing kicked off her career in 2015 in Lafayette, Louisiana on our sister station KLFY News 10. She has covered numerous national stories, including the Grand Theater shooting, the Baton Rouge police raid and the 2016 floods. Laing then relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for our WVLA sister station NBC Local 33 News as Morning Anchor and was promoted to Main Anchor in 2019. In Baton Rouge Laing covered Hurricanes Laura, Delta and Ida, many elections, festivals and Mardi Gras. Laing is very proud of her women’s segment in Louisiana, which showcases local women and promotes women’s empowerment.

Laing is also very committed to educating the next generation of journalists. In 2020, she joined the LSU staff as an assistant professor, teaching introductory journalism and news gathering courses. Growing up on the Crimson Tide, she fell in love with LSU and its students…GEAUX Tigers! If you love Louisiana culture and cuisine, there’s no better place than home. Carly looks forward to returning to her roots and connecting with the community that helped shape what she is today.
