Ken Barlow Career/Education
Barlow graduated from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire with a BS in Meteorology. He is a Chief Meteorologist at 5 Eyewitness News since 2021. There before, he was at WBZ-TV in Boston, MA for several years. Ken has an experience of over 3decades of weather forecasting including 25 years in Minnesota, the station.
Barlow has won several Emmy awards. He has also worked as an adjunct professor of broadcast meteorology at St. Cloud State University. Ken earned the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation in February 2020. This is a professional recognition of the quality of their weather broadcasts, which is kind of a mark of distinction and recognition.
Barlow is a previous member of the Boards of Directors and Trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities. Ken is also an invited lecturer at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He also works as a Life Source MN, Allina Health, Park Nicollet Foundation, BringChange2Mind, Team Ortho, Shriners Hospitals Children, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention just to, mention a few.
Ken has received the Paul Wellstone Advocacy Award from the MN Psychiatric Society and as well serves on the International Bipolar Foundation’s Advisory Board.
Ken is at the moment serving on the Board of Directors of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). He also works on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Mental Health Community Foundation and is on the heading Committee for Children’s Mental Health at the Park Nicollet Foundation. Ken and his wife Theresa have helped create a new brochure and video for newly diagnosed bipolar patients and their families by working with Mayo Clinic.
