Swanson believes her job is to hold leaders accountable for their actions and decisions and ensures to find out what stories are important to them and their families. Kirsten joined KSTP 5 Eyewitness News team in January 2016. Therebefore, she was a reporter at KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
While in South Dakota, Kirsten was honored by the Associated Press for Best Spot News reporting in 2014. For many years working in New Mexico, she covered various issues, including the legislature. The station covered a session and earned an award from the New Mexico Broadcasters Association in 2015.
Additionally, Kirsten contributed to KOAT’s investigative unit where she uncovered wait time issues at the Albuquerque VA Hospital. Further, she also reported on the U.S. Department of Justice reforms handed down to the Albuquerque Police Department. Kirsten loves to cook and bake, read, and travel whenever off duty. She also enjoys skiing and also loves to explore the great outdoors.
