He was immersed in sports growing up whether playing outside, watching them on TV, or going to live games—especially Kansas City Royals and Chiefs games. During his time at Kansas State University, Avery was actively involved in K-StateHD.TV. He worked behind the scenes as an editor and as an on-air talent for the show. Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Bramlage Coliseum were two of his favorite places to hang out in Manhattan. He keeps up his support for his old mater and never skips a football or basketball game.

After graduating in 2019, Avery worked as a professor at K-State’s A.Q. Miller School of Journalism. He taught students of all skill levels in audio, video, and writing. One of his greatest passions is being of service to others, developing connections with them, and seeing their professional development. Avery continues to pursue his love of sports covering the Kansas City Royals and the Wildcats for the Associated Press. In addition, he works in the video department of the Kansas City Chiefs during game days. He has a championship ring to show that he was a part of the team during their 2019 Super Bowl run.

He is the Wichita Wind Surge’s emcee, and he says nothing beats a night at the ballpark. Originally from Kansas, he is eager to see more amazing places and get to know the amazing people in the Sunflower State. Avery likes spending time with his loved ones and friends. He loves sports and enjoys being with the people he cares about most.
