Taher began her broadcasting career as a reporter in college and then after-hours news director for KHTS Radio. While there, she covered breaking news such as wildfires and on-the-scene car accidents. She also wrote on regional issues. Before that, she was a news intern at KCRW in Los Angeles County, California, for four months.

In July 2022, Zena was hired at KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO as a News Production Assistant for five months. After that, Zena returned to KCRW, the NPR affiliate in L.A. where she worked as a producer. She assumed responsibility for organizing the Morning Edition and All Things Considered newscasts. She enjoys longboarding, hiking, and reading in her own time.
