David Highfield is from America. He is a multiple Emmy award-winning journalist who currently anchors KDKA’s morning newscast “Your Day Pittsburgh” with Heather Abraham. He joined the KDKA team since 1991. Additionally, the two are also “Pittsburgh Today Live,” hosts which is a very popular daily lifestyle/talk show. Initially at KDKA, he got his start as a writer and later was promoted to a newscast producer.

Later David became the Westmoreland County Bureau Chief and later the Beaver/Butler Bureau Chief and this was in front of the camera. Additionally, he was an 11 p.m. reporter and fill-in anchor for many years before becoming an anchor at KDKA News at Noon.

Highfield vividly remembers covering Visits to the U.S. by Pope Francis and Pope Benedict and the shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007. Moreover, he also covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and in 2018, he reported on the tragedy at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue among others. When the death of Mayor Bob O’Connor occurred, and the crash of Flight 427, David was among the journalists reporting. Further, in 2000 he covered Richard Baumhammers’ shooting spree and also the 9/11 attack from both Shanksville and the Pentagon.

Fortunately, David’s various reports have aired on WCBS in New York and also KCBS in Los Angeles. Additionally, he was once live reporting on drought conditions for “CBS This Morning” (now “CBS Mornings”). Highfield was live on a train derailment for WBBM in Chicago.

Additionally, David won Golden Quills for feature reporting, and even more awards from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association Also, he won a Matrix award for flood coverage. Further, Highfield created, hosted and executive produced the Emmy award-winning “Your Pittsburgh,” which was an evening newsmagazine that ran excellently for seven years on KDKA. In the 2009 short film “Tommy and Me,” David played a news reporter.

David’s community inducted him into the Ford City Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2013, he was inducted for numerous sports-related stories he’s covered over the years into the Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame. He has actively participated in the community by donating to local charities like The KDKA-TV Turkey Fund, Animal Friends, and  Persad Center, as well as Hair Peace. He has done even more donations to the American Red Cross, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County among others.
