He became a full-time Money & Politics Editor on KDKA in September 2001 as well as the only political analyst who covers national and local issues that affect hometown residents.

Jon’s on-air work started way back in 1991 after fourteen years working in the US Congress as chief of staff to a Pennsylvania congressman. Jon Delano is now very famous on KDKA since he has been working at the station as a  political analyst since 1994.

He became a full-time Money & Politics Editor on KDKA in September 2001 as well as the only political analyst who covers national and local issues that affect hometown residents. Additionally, he is the producer of the Sunday Business Page segments for KDKA’s weekend news. Previously, Jon was co-host of the KD/PG Sunday Edition, a weekly public affairs program.

Delano has excellent abilities to analyze complex issues and make them understandable to any audience. His experience is can be traced from both government and the private business world. Also, Jon has practiced law and reported radio/television, as well as having taught at the graduate level. In 2008,  He interviewed   Barack Obama as the first TV reporter in the state 2008. Thereafter, Jon had six interviews with him that year, along with John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Sarah Palin.

Jon had four one-on-one interviews with President Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign. Further, he was the first local TV reporter to interview former President Donald Trump on a one-on-one basis. Not forgetting how he interviewed former Vice President Pence, and members of the Trump family. Also, Jon interviewed many other Democratic and Republican officials Democratic presidential candidates included.

Jon recently had one-on-one interviews with Vice President Kamala Harris and members of the President’s Cabinet, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and Labor Secretary Marty Walsh.

Delano won the Edward R. Murrow Award for excellent “hard news” stories in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. He also received the Small Business Journalist Champion of the Year award from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the “Good Government Award” from the Greater Pittsburgh League of Women Voters, two Golden Quill Awards, two Robert Vann awards from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, and the Clarity Award for the Pennsylvania Bar Association for being a lawyer who can write in plain English.

Jon recently retired as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz College of Information Systems & Public Policy where he taught courses on media and public policy, money and politics, and public policy implementation.

Delano actively participates in his church and also volunteers for several community organizations. Additionally, he frequently moderates and facilitates seminars, candidate debates, and programs and speaks on governmental and political issues to civic, business, and labor groups.
