Jones went to Valley High School and later joined Point Park University where she studied Broadcast Reporting. While still a student, he produced, anchored, hosted, and reported for many shows on “UView” the school’s television station. Royce was published in the school’s online newspaper “Point Park News Service.”
Jones undertook his internship at KDKA in college. He interned through the Emma Bowen Foundation, which is a non-profit organization for communications students of color. Additionally, he returned during the summer to work full-time in the newsroom
Royce covered various stories for the station while an intern which included protests for Antwon Rose II, and the American Federation of Teachers Convention. Also, he covered breaking news, court, and crime, as well as weather among many others.
He remembers covering the “Art of the Brick” exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center where he featured dozens of sculptures made fully from lego bricks! Royce also worked as a fill-in KDKA Assignments Editor on and off. However, he later became Anchor/MMJ gig in the Ohio Valley as a junior in college.

Prior to joining the KDKA team, Jones worked as a Multimedia-Journalist and Weekend Anchor for WTRF-7News, a CBS/ABC affiliate. While there, Royce reported and gathered various stories during the daytime and later wrote, edited, and anchored the 6 p.m. newscast. Despite doing all this in a day’s work, he would also fill in for the 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts as per demand.
Royce’s most memorable coverage in the Mountain and Buckeye includes two visits by President Donald Trump and the Ziegenfelder Frozen Treat Plant fire. Additionally, he covered on Weirton Steel Basic Oxygen Plant implosion and Paden City water contamination among others. Jones’s provision of local angles for national covering includes Hurricane Florence and The Tree of Life shooting Also the Impeachment of President Donald Trump as well as Hurricane Dorian.
